GARDEN & COMPOST
GARDEN
Our garden will be comprised of many different aspects of how to use the landscape to produce vegetables and fruits as well as a variety of herbs. The food we grow here will be used as a learning tool. We hope to teach anyone who is interested about the processes it takes to bring your garden to fruition. The basic steps and work it takes to grow plants is almost exactly the same regardless of size. This can be easily replicated in many different ways, including small scale such as in an apartment.
We plan on having two separate garden spaces that will be organic and non-organic. We plan on having a learning space that will provide the comparison between the two. There are endless possibilities to what we can do. There are many spaces on campus that will be developed with the help of ayone we makes up the Travis HS campus as well as the surrounding communities. Gardens bring health through teamwork and we hope to teach that to all who are involved. |
COMPOST
Our garden will be fed by the compost we will create on campus. The proper practices and techniques can result in a very successful medium to grow edible plants from. We will use donated organics (food and certain paper products) to make the compost. Again, we will have two different, organic and non-organic, bins to develop our garden and green spaces. With the help of the culinary arts class, other locations on campus and even donations from Starbucks, we will maintain the learning environment to also create a healthy vermiculture (worm farm) which will further our gardening success.
